NV L. Aubry Fils Premier Cru Brut, Champagne, France $59.99
Meunier expresses here as barley, rusks, crackers, and so the wine is rusky, coppery-saline, iodé, mineral and appetizing. It’s beautifully expressive of a corner of Champagne, and tastes as though it were fined with sel gris. This year it’s 50% 2013 and 50% a perpetual reserve started in 1998. Deg 1/2016, it’s 55% Meunier (higher than usual), 25% CH, 20% PN and 5% “other” (which means basically everything that wouldn’t fit in the vats); it’s in form, brassy and oyster; after a dip a couple years ago (for which we have our old friend 2011 to thank) this is better than ever. – Terry Theise

NV Margaine Cuvee Le Brut, Champagne, France $63.99
"The first wine in the range from A. Margaine, the NV Champagne Cuvee Le Brut is 88% Chardonnay and the remainder Pinot Noir, with 55% from the 2019 vintage. A supple wine with a delicate perfume of white flowers, pastry dough, almond, and green apple, the palate is medium-bodied and clean, with pure pear fruit, lime candy, and a lifted finish. A lovely and refreshing aperitif style that is enjoyable now, it is also a great value. Drink 2022-2030."

NV Hebrart Cuvee de Reserve, Champagne, France $67.99
The NV Brut Cuvée de Réserve is terrific. Ample, creamy and expressive, the Cuvée de Réserve offers striking depth and resonance. Dried pear, smoke, slate and orchard fruit notes build into the inviting finish. The current release is 80% Pinot Noir (from Mareuil-sur-Aÿ, Avenay, Val d’Or and Bisseuil) and 20% Chardonnay (from Mareuil-sur-Aÿ). Dosage is 8.5 grams per liter. Disgorged: April 2016. - Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media

Disgorged in October 2019, the new release of Hébrart's NV Brut Cuvée de Réserve is showing nicely, exhibiting notes of crisp orchard fruit, fresh peach, orange oil and white flowers. Medium-bodied, fleshy and precise, with a pretty core of fruit that's framed by bright acids and complemented by a pillowy mousse, it would make for an immensely charming aperitif. - William Kelley, Wine Advocate

NV Gaston Chiquet Tradition Brut, Chmpagne, France $59.99
Exotic aromas of honeysuckle, rose petals, and dried fruit. Intensely flavored, frothy, and quite dry. Stylish, seamless, and with a very long finish. 40% Pinot Meunier, 35% Chardonnay, and 25% Pinot Noir. Sustainable farming.

Pairings: Caviar, chicken wings, buttered popcorn

NV Paul Laurent CUVÉE BRUT ROSÉ, Champagne, France $58.99
The Brut Rosé has an intense yet delicate disposition.
The flavors of strawberry, raspberries, and wild currents are offset with the intricate, light flavors brought out by the Chardonnay.
This cuvée is a balance of fruitiness, brightness, and elegance.

H. Billiot Fils N.V. Grand Cru Brut Rosé, Ambonnay, Champagne, France $74.99
Supple, plump, exploding with sexy red fruits and cream smeared toast. Full in the mouth with sassy little bubbles that dance across the tongue leaving a stain of red fruit on the long, give-me-more finish.
The wines from this tiny domaine in Ambonnay have been a staple in our grower Champagne department for over twenty years now. First it was the, somewhat temperamental wines from Serge Billiot that captivated us but now, now it is the wines from his daughter Laetitia that have us completely stunned by their amazing brilliance. This perfectly pitched Brut Rose is, in its place right now, the best we’ve ever experienced from this estate. Hands down. Supple, plump, exploding with sexy red fruits and cream smeared toast. Full in the mouth with sassy little bubbles that dance across the tongue leaving a stain of red fruit on the long, give-me-more finish. Damn, now I need another sip.
