The Wines
NV Santa Tresa Il Frappato Spumante Brut Rosé, Sicily, Italy $21.99
At Santa Tresa we love to experiment and our Frappato Spumante is the first example of a Frappato Rosé spumante to be made in Sicily.
Tasting notes: a delicate salmon pink, Il Frappato Spumante Rosé has a fine and consistent perlage. Elegant, with fresh fruity notes on the bouquet, reminiscent of wild strawberries. On the palate, the wine is delicate and harmonious, with lovely fresh fruit flavors, citrussy notes and a pleasant acidity
The secondary fermentation for Frappato Brut takes place in small autoclaves at a temperature not exceeding 14°C.
2022 Terredora Dipaolo Greco di Tufo " Loggia Della Serra", Campania, Italy $27.99
The Greco di Tufo Loggia della Serra offers a rich and powerfully aromatic nose of apricot, apple, peach and citrus. Full-bodied, soft and well balanced with excellent acidity.
Made with selected Greco grapes from Terredora’s own vineyards in Santa Paolina, set against the incomparably beautiful natural scenery of Castelmozzo. It was here that the first 8 hectares were purchased in 1978, starting the rebirth of winegrowing in this particularly vocational province. If the Angels ever brought the earth closer to heaven, only these vineyards could be the Lands of Angels. The harmonious combination of this ancient Greek grape, the chalky-limestone soil and environment of this hilly site are ideal for giving "Terre degli Angeli” elegance and personality. This special selection of Greco di Tufo stands out not only for its minerality but also its complexity, accompanied by acidity that enhances its very agreeable character.
2023 Broglia La Meirana Gavi, Italy $26.99
The color is pale straw yellow with green reflections. The bouquet on the nose is fine and delicate with lots of fruits, such as peach, melon and pink grapefruit, together with some hints of anise and flowers. Very fresh and balanced sip, with a long fruity finish. Ideal as an aperitif; perfect with grilled fish, sea salt bream and fish soup.
For the Broglia, Gavi La Meirana is the most representative and classical of production and for this reason it carries on its label the name of the Estate: La Meirana. Production of La Meirana takes place in large stainless steel tanks which are temperature controlled. All the grapes are sourced from the municipality of Gavi and once at the Broglia cellar they are left to mature for six months in steel on their lees, in order to keep the fresh and fruity aromas intact.
2023 Produttori del Barbaresco Langhe Nebbiolo, Piedmont, Italy $28.99
Produttori del Barbaresco, one of Piedmont’s most esteemed cooperative wineries, applies the same traditional winemaking techniques to their Langhe Nebbiolo as they do to their iconic Barbaresco. Sourced from younger vines and declassified fruit from top Barbaresco vineyards, the 2023 vintage offers a vibrant and approachable expression of Nebbiolo, while still carrying the structure and complexity that define the grape.
Red cherry, raspberry, and rose petals lead, layered with hints of anise, crushed herbs, and subtle earth. The palate is fresh and lively, with fine-grained tannins and bright acidity providing lift and elegance. While delicious now, a short decant will enhance its depth, and it will continue to develop over the next few years. A perfect pairing for pasta with ragù, roasted meats, or aged cheeses, this is a Nebbiolo that delivers both early drinking pleasure and classic Piemontese character.
2022 Terredora Dipaolo Aglianico, Campania, Italy $24.99
Variety: 100% Aglianico.
Production area: selected vineyards in areas of Campania.
Winemaking: the grapes are macerated at 24-25 °C for no more than 5-7 days to obtain good color extraction to avoid excessive tannic structure and maintain good aromatic freshness. Fermentation in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperature, followed by a period of refinement in stainless steel tanks.
Tasting Notes: ruby red color, with aromas of cherry, black cherry, artemisia, thyme. A wine of medium structure, round full dark red fruits and some tarry earthiness. Fresh with soft tannins, and a pleasant aftertaste of black cherry.
Food Pairings: a very food-friendly wine, ideal with cold cuts, Mediterranean cuisine, such as soups and pasta dishes, white meat and light main courses. Perfect as an aperitif.
2020 Leone de Castris Salice Salentino Negroamaro Riserva, Italy $26.99
Leone de Castris Salice Salentino Riserva DOC Red Wine features an intense garnet color. Aromas of blackberry and black cherry, notes of basil and sweet spices due to the refinement in oak barrels. In the mouth it is smooth and balanced with a strong but never intrusive tannin. Long and lingering finish. Pairs very well with roasted meats and ripe cheeses.
The history of Leone de Castris runs parallel to that of wine in Puglia since, for over three centuries, the strength and pride of the nobility of its tradition has been released from every sip of its wine. In 1665 Oronzo Arcangelo of the Counts of Lemos, founded the cellar where it is still today, in Salice Salentino. It is right around the small village of Salice that large estates are created where mainly vineyards and olive trees are planted.
