2021 Quinta Da Muradella Monterrei Blanco Alanda,  Monterrei, Galicia, Spain $51.99
Sourced from a range of small plots, or majuelos, scattered across Monterrei’s three subzones, this is Muradella’s core white wine.  Alanda means “get going!” and the blend includes Treixadura, Doña Blanca and Verdelho. These varieties are fermented together, added progressively to the vat, and matured in a combination of 1,500-litre used French oak foudre and stainless steel. The source vineyards are managed biodynamically and give low yields, with rocky soils that are mainly decomposed slate with granite and clay. This is simply a magnificent white from Muradella, at once succulent, deep and racy with serious mineral resonance. “Like drinking liquid stone,” our note concluded.

“The 2021 Alanda Blanco is a village wine from Monterrei, a blend of Dona Blanca, Treixadura and Verdello that reflects the diversity of soils, altitudes and expositions. The varieties fermented together, being added to the vat progressively, and 1,500-liters matured in a used French oak foudre for 15 months and the rest was kept in stainless steel. It's pale, young and austere, more about soil and rocks than fruit, with notions of wet granite and dry flowers. It has contained ripeness, 13% alcohol, very good acidity, freshness and balance, with a sense of purity and transparency that is common to all whites here. It has depth, energy and light and extra vibrancy this year. It could very well be the finest white Alanda to date.”

2022 Bernabeleva Camino De Navaherreros (Garnacha), Spain $19.99
Bernabeleva are Garnacha (Grenache) specialists in an unlikely locale: outside Madrid. But Bernabeleva's subzone of San Martín de Valdeiglesias can yield distinctly higher-quality wines than the rest of this interior zone. Using biodynamic methods, the estate crafts several different all-Grenache wines, all with great freshness and elegance.

Elegant example of Garnacha.  Multi-layered, nuanced and generally really exciting - fresh, yet made with old vines.  Intense floral bouquet, with aromas of strawberry, raspberry, rose, magnolia and Asian spices.

These special, sandy high elevation soils in the Gredos Mountains west of Madrid along with the Bernabeleva’s old-school, minimal intervention winemaking results in a brilliant and pure expression of the old vines.

Vincente Alvarez-Villamil purchased the family’s estate land in 1923, planting Garnacha. But not until 2006 did his great-grandchildren, start to fulfill his dream of making special garnacha with what was then already 80-year old vines.

2021 Descendientes de Jose Palacios Petalos, Bierzo, Spain $25.99
Dark cherries and hints of lavender and oyster sauce to the slate, crushed blueberries, dark cherries and baked strawberries. Full-bodied and tannic, but silky and powdery. Long and tangy to the end. From organically grown grapes.

Ricardo Perez and Álvaro Palacios put Bierzo, and the Mencía variety, on the map. Their trailblazing winery, Descendientes de J. Palacios, is named after José Palacios, Álvaro’s father, and Ricardo’s grandfather. The estate vineyards are located around the town of Corullón, on Bierzo’s western edge. The zone is home to the region’s highest vineyards, steepest slopes, and poorest, slate/schist soils. Ricardo has influenced a generation of Spanish farmers and winemakers through his pioneering work with biodynamic and sustainable farming. Vineyard work is done primarily by hand or mule, and all estate fruit is farmed biodynamically.

2021 Psi (Pingus) Ribera Del Duero, Spain $38.99
Bargemone is among the foremost estates of the Coteaux d’Aix appellation of Provence. A benchmark producer of the delicious, dry rosé for which Provence is famous. Bargemone Rosé is a harmonious blend of Grenache, Cinsault, and Syrah with aromas of flowers and red berries and a refreshingly crisp finish.

The Commanderie, founded by Templar knights in the 13th century. The vineyards are home to a proud viticulture tradition and more than 160 acres of organically grown vineyards. The 2023 Made with organic grapes.

Tasting Notes: Offers classic aromas of wild strawberries and red currants, with a light, floral character, and a crisp, bone-dry palate.

2018 Da Muradella Monterrei Tinto Alanda, Galicia, Spain $51.99
Laurence Alanda is the "village" level wine. It comes from a mix of their vineyards across the appellation. The blend is Mencia, Arauxa (Tempranillo), Garnacha Tintorera and Mouraton. Soils a calcareous blend of clay and granite. Aged for about 15 months in a mix of concrete, steel and foudres. The wine is then assembled and kept in tank for an additional year before bottling.
