NV Philippe Fontaine Champagne Tradition, France $53.99
Sub-Region: Côte des Bar (Aube)
Classification: Brut, Blanc de Noirs / Blanc des Noirs
70% Pinot Noir, 30% Pinot Meunier
This charming blanc des noirs opens with lush aromas of yellow apple, pear skin, and citrus peel, followed by subtle notes of toasted bread and almond. On the palate, the wine is fresh and lightly textural, with fine bubbles supporting orchard fruit and gentle, savory undertones. Acidity is firm but not sharp, lending definition without austerity, and the finish is dry, balanced, and quietly persistent, emphasizing drinkability over power.
Champagne Philippe Fontaine is a family-run estate based in Balnot-sur-Laignes in the Côte des Bar, the southernmost sub-region of Champagne located in the Aube, nearly 100 miles southeast of Épernay. Historically known for supplying fruit to larger houses, the Aube has increasingly become a center for grower-producers, and the Fontaine family—who have farmed here for centuries—are part of this shift. Today the domaine is led by Salomé Fontaine and her husband Louis-Antoine, continuing a focus on estate-grown, sustainably farmed fruit.
2024 Grape Abduction Rose, Štajerska, Slovenia $19.99
Organic Žametna Črnina based blend from Gönc winery. Peter Gönc is a 4th generation winemaker. Gönc winery was established in 1936 when Peter Gönc’s great grandfather built their first wine cellar and planted the vineyard in the small town of Dobrovnik in Slovenia. The name of the winery, Gönc, is the last name of the family and also a name for a Hungarian oak barrel, which contains 136 liters. Aged for 5 months in stainless steel tanks. Tastes a bit like picking strawberries in a lush, woodland Slovenian forest. Fruit forward with notes of raspberries and a lingering, dry finish of fresh pansies and violets.
2024 Grape Abduction Orange, Štajerska, Slovenia $19.99
Blend: Pinot Blanc, Pinot Grigio, Riesling
Aging: 5 months in stainless steel
A light amber color with an aromatically rich nose of ripe golden apple, quince, sweet brown spice, and hints of honey. On the palate, the wine is round with flavors from the nose and a good minerality. The finish is smooth and lingering with highlighted notes of sweet brown spices.
Grape Abduction Company is the brainchild of Peter Gönc who makes wine in Podravje, Slovenia whose family has been making wine since 1936. Peter’s great-grandfather built their first wine cellar and planted the vineyard around it in the small town of Dobrovnik in Slovenia. After World War II, his grandfather moved to the city Ptuj where he started working in the Ptujska Klet, or Ptuj wine cellar, as a cellar cleaner and worked his way up to head winemaker and CEO of the oldest winery in Slovenia, now known as Pullus.
Peter’s father worked at the same winery, but on the side he also planted 24 acres of vineyards to keep up the family tradition (now 28 acres total). When Peter came of age they built a new cellar in Ptuj and started Gönc again. Peter is the 4th generation of winemakers and winegrowers in the family. Farming is organic, and all the wines receive little to no added sulfites at bottling. Despite this minimal intervention, the wines are even more stable and long-lasting, even once open, making them ideal for restaurants or wine bars pouring by the glass.
What Peter says about Grape Abduction Wines:
"From far off in space, we observed your little blue and green planet, spinning around your great yellow sun at unimaginable speeds – well, at least they are unimaginable to you. And we realized that there was one special place on this planet with the perfect conditions to grow wine fit for the tastes of space: Stajerska, Slovenia.
Grapes as diverse as Pinot Blanc, Pinot Noir, Pinot Grigio, Riesling, and even the hard-to-pronounce ones (we’re looking at you, Žametna Črnina) thrive in the harsh environment of these rocky hills. Made entirely by … erm, hand… and treated with the highest degrees of technology and care, we have created three wines that truly give you the taste of the cosmos. Space juice, if you will.
And if you ever found yourself gazing up at the sky and asking: do aliens make wine? Now, you have your answer."
2024 Grape Abduction Red, Štajerska, Slovenia $22.99
A cosmic ruby red color with pungent aromas of blackberries, cranberries, soft dark spices, and warm currant notes. On the palate, this natural Blaufränkisch is pure, jammy, and lively with a very smooth mouthfeel and a long, fruity and spicy finish.
This is a chillable red, food friendly to be enjoyed with smoked sausages, grilled meats, hard cheeses, or light fare.

2023 Domaine Marion Pral Cru Beaujolais Morgon Les Charms, Beaujolais, France $25.99
In the heart of the Pays des Pierres Dorées in the southernmost tip of the Beaujolais region, Domaine Marion Pral practices ecological farming on their 45 acres of vines. The estate is located in the hamlet of La Roche in Saint-Laurent-d’Oingt, 10 miles from Villefranche, capital of the Beaujolais. Pascal Chatelus, his wife Marion Pral, and their family have been farming the estate for several generations. All vineyards are located on granite-based south and southwest-facing hillside soils. Harvests are done by hand.
100% Gamay
Aging: 6 to 8 months in older French demi-muid barrels
Beaujolais’s most admired and longest-lived Cru is an optimal way to showcase the caliber of winemaking at Domaine Marion Pral. Les Charmes shows why it’s one of Morgon’s top vineyard sites as rich berries mesh harmoniously with a firm tannic streak and layers of brown spice and dried rose petal that unfurl seductively as the wine relaxes into a plush, weighty finish. A strong line of acidity keeps everything lively enough to wash down some charcuterie, rotisserie chicken, creamy mushroom pasta, or Thai curries with a little heat to them. 500 cases produced.
