“As humans we strive towards an ideal life in order to fulfil our destiny and our everyday life is part of this exciting process.  We are very fortunate to be part of this cycle through our work in vineyards and its continuity in the cellar. The final product in bottle is a true celebration of what happens in the vineyard.” – Jurgen Gouws

The Wines

2021 Intellego Chenin Blanc, Swartland, South Africa $32.99

The Intellego Chenin Blanc is the very first wine that was made under the Intellego label and these grapes are from a vineyard in the South of the Swartland. The label is a picture I took of an abandoned workers house next to the vineyard. These workers contribute massively to the vineyards and work been done there.

Whole bunch pressed and fermented on the gross lees in old 500L barrels.

Racked before bottling and a small part of sulphur added before being bottled.
The wine sits on the lees for 11 months and no batonage done.

Grapes: Chenin Blanc
Soil: Decompose granite
Vines: bush vines
Planted: 2002
Irrigation: dry farm

2022 Intellego "The Story Of Harry" Chenin/Chard, Swartland, South Africa $25.99
Harry is a fictional character and one of the locals working in the vineyards.  Just like all the other locals Harry dries his washing by hanging it onto the farm fences and it lights up the Swartland with these bright colours.

Whole bunch pressed and fermented in stainless steel tanks for 8 months. The wine was racked off the lees after malolactic fermentation was completed and a small part of sulphur added.

Grapes: 90% Chenin Blanc/10% Chardonnay
Soil: Decompose Granite & Shale
Vines: bush vines
Planted: 2002
Irrigation: the Chenin Blanc has irrigation, but the Chardonnay is dry-farmed.

2023 Intellego "The Pink Moustache" Cinsault Blend, South Africa $33.99
In this instance, facial hair symbolizes the three different styles of wine red(beard), rose (clean skin) and the light red(moustache). This wine represents the lighter red style and the word pink describes the colour as it’s a mix between a pink/light red colour.

A short 3-day skin contact fermentation before continuing in small old barrels for another 5 months. Racked into stainless steel where it spends another 6 weeks before bottling.

Grapes: Syrah & Cinsaut – Some years we use Mourvedre
Soil: Oakleaf/Ferricrete/Shale
Vines: bush vines
Planted: 2001
Irrigation: Syrah dry farm while Cinsaut under drip irrigation.

2023 Intellego "Halagasha" Pinotage, Swartland, South Africa  $33.99
Farming Practices - Organic","Natural
ABV - 12.0
Forget what you know about big, bold Pinotage; this is fresh and vibrant. In the style of both its parents (Pinot Noir and Cinsault), it has a light frame with raspberry, strawberry, and red currant as the main red fruit flavors on the palate. Backed by a subtle hint of fresh roses and white pepper. The acidity and lack of oak notes make this a very easy-drinking wine. Dusty tannins close it out.
