Domaine H (Sukhwan Ha)
Perched on the steep, east-facing slopes of Chignin, Domaine H is the new project of Sukhwan Ha, a Korean-born, sommelier-turned-vigneron who transitioned from a distinguished front-of-house career to winemaking in 2023. He tends old vines across Chignin’s high terraces and works parcel by parcel to preserve freshness and minerality.
Before becoming a vigneron, Sukhwan made his name in Lyon — notably as chef-sommelier and owner of Le Passe-Temps, one of the very first restaurants in the region to earn a Michelin star while championing low-intervention, terroir-focused wines. He later launched an import business in Korea, bringing key names to Korean sommeliers and collectors, including Emmanuel Overnoy, Octavin, Pascal Côtat, and Thierry Alleman...

The Wines
NV Domaine H Chant Des Flocons Cremant De Savoie Extra Brut, Savoie, France $42.99
Pale lemon-gold with fine, persistent bubbles. The nose is clean and precise: white peach, lemon curd, white flowers, and a light autolytic note of brioche from lees contact. The palate is brisk and dry, with crisp alpine acidity, mineral salinity, and a clean, lingering finish.
Translating to "Song of the Snowflakes" in French, this cuvée is a collaboration with Korean artist Moodi.Kim, whose label instantly transports us to the slow, quiet winters of Savoie. Jacquère's early harvest acidity is complimented by Altesse's subtle florality in this crémant; a beautiful glass of mountain bubbles!
Clay-limestone terroir on steep, high-altitude slopes surrounding the village of Torméry. Harvested slightly early for higher acidity. Élevage in stainless steel for one year. Hand Harvested. 90% Jacquère, 10% Altesse.
2024 Domaine H Chignin, Savoie, France $34.99
Pale lemon-green with a bright, clear appearance. The nose is delicate and fresh: white peach, lemon zest, white flowers, and a stony alpine mineral note. The palate is light and precise, with clean citrus fruit, brisk acidity, and a long, flinty finish that stays dry throughout.
Jacquère is picked earlier in the season, giving a refreshing citrus profile; Chignin's steep hillsides presents an elegant note of wet stones and a slight salinity.
Clay-limestone terroir on steep, high-altitude slopes. 30 year old vines. 1 hectare in Torméry. 400-500 m. Vinified with native yeasts. Cold pressing under CO2 and cold settling. The wine is unfined and bottled unfiltered with no added SO2.
Aged in stainless steel tanks for 1 year. Hand Harvested. 100% Jacquère.
2024 Domaine H Compard Chignin-Bergeron ‘Compard’, Savoie, France $51.99
Grape: Roussanne
Vibe: Layered
Again incredibly complex and well-rounded. Roussanne suits the Savoie and Sukhwan's style very well. Layered and honeyed, we get a little bit of glycerol on palate but in a positive way. There is no fat or heaviness. It's again full of cooling mountain freshness and drinkability is suitably off the charts zero zero. Rumour has it some of these have been aged in ex-Côtat barrels.
Located in Torméry, a renowned vineyard hillside in Chignin, Savoie, Domaine H is the brainchild of Sukhwan Ha, a Korean national who worked for many years as a sommelier in the fine dining restaurants of Lyon. Having earned France’s first Michelin Star for Korean food alongside friend and compatriot, Lee Young-hoon, the vineyards of the Jura began calling. Following a year-long apprenticeship with Pierre Overnoy & Manu Houillon, where he fine-tuned his winemaking skills, he headed south to the altitudinous vineyards of the Savoie, taking over the historic Domaine Yves Girard Madoux estate to create Domaine H in 2023. Currently, 10ha are farmed organically at an altitude between 350 and 400 metres above sea level.
Old vines, clay-limestone soils, stainless-steel, old oak, un-fined and unfiltered and sulphur only when necessary; these wines are explosive in their aromatics. Their florality is tempered by an intense, mineral core that makes these both highly striking now, but with the wherewithal to age beautifully.
2024 Domaine H Le Premier Printemps Maceration, Savoie, France $42.99
Sukhwan’s very first wine: a 100% Jacquère given a delicate maceration that adds a whisper of texture while drinking like a pure alpine white. At just 10% alcohol, it is luminous and feather-light, with notes of citrus, pear blossom, and mountain herbs. Unsulphured and remarkably clean, it shows rare precision for a debut cuvée. The label features art by rising Korean artist Moodi Kim, highlighting the singularity of this release.
2024 Domaine H Mondeuse, Savoie, France $47.99
Made from younger vines and minimal extraction, a lighter interpretation of Mondeuse is found, abundant with red fruit and white pepper. Clay-limestone terroir on steep, high-altitude slopes surrounding the town of Torméry. 25 year old vines. 1.6 hectares. 400-500 m. Destemmed with CO2 for protection. Minimal, gentle punchdowns carried out by hand. Native yeast fermentation. No sulfur added. Aged in stainless steel for one year. Hand Harvested. Neither fined nor filtered before bottling.
