NV Monogram Franciacorta Cuvee Saten Blanc De Blancs Brut, Lombardy, Italy $27.99
Acacia and white lime-flowers, chalky minerality, yellow plums and pastry notes. Multifaceted, detailed and complex. Medium-bodied with a tightly knit structure, this has good mousse and weight, grapefruit and zesty, long acidity. Silky finish. - 94 points James Suckling
Owned by the Cavicchioli family, the estate and Winery, which take their name from the castle of the former owner Colonel Umberto Faglia, are located in Calino Di Cazzago San Martino, in the province of Brescia, in the heart of the Franciacorta DOCG production. The hilly territory, located 300 meters above sea level, of morainic origin and rich in stones, enjoys an enviable exposure and microclimate. The vineyards of about 17 hectares, cultivated as gardens, are exclusively composed of Chardonnay, Pinot Bianco and, to a minimum, Pinot Noir grapes.
2024 Cordero di Montezemolo Arneis, Langhe, Piedmont, Italy $19.99
Winemaker Notes
QUINCE, HONEY & LILY PERFUME, LUSH & VIBRANT
Since 1340 and throughout 18 generations, the Cordero di Montezemolo estate has been owned by the same family. Arneis, while not a household name here in the US, is the most respected white variety of the Piemonte. Some can lack structure and clock in at unattractively high prices, but this example delivers complexity, memorable richness, and a perfect balance courtesy of zesty acidity – simultaneously indulgent and lively. A truly lovely drink!
2019 Marcarini Barbaresco "Pertinace", Piedmont, Italy $47.99
Elegantly structured and surpisingly light, Barbaresco is made with Nebbiolo grapes coming from the MeGa Marcarini. Aged 18 months in Slavonian oak casks, creating an elegant and delicate wine. An intense ruby red color, with a complex aroma of cherries and red fruits. Well balanced and soft, to try with the most refined piedmontese and international dishes. The perfect combination of vibrant and clean.
2020 Massolino Barolo, Piedmont, Italy $51.99
The Massolino family has deep roots in the Langhe. Great-grandfather Giovanni Massolino founded the winery in 1896 and was the first to bring electricity and a steam-operated machine for harvesting grain to Serralunga d’Alba. Grandfather Giuseppe was one of the founders of the local winegrowers’ consortium in 1934 and father Giovanni bought the first single vineyard, Parafada. Today, the estate is run by siblings Franco, Roberto and Paola. This classic Barolo achieves its best expression when served with red meats, particularly game, and with dishes dressed with truffle.
Cherry, plum, camphor and tobacco flavors are aligned with a silky texture. This intense red is juicy midpalate before building to the long finish, with earth, tobacco and licorice notes. Still, this is solid and dense. Best from 2027 through 2043. 93 points Wine Spectator
2020 Bruna Grimaldi Barolo "Camila", Piedmont, Italy $53.99
Winemaker Notes
Camilla is Bruna Grimaldi's Barolo Classico and it is produced with grapes from different vineyards whose soils are similar in terms of age and composition. Barolo Camilla is elegant and beautiful. It represents the harmony and the balance of a traditional Barolo and it distinguishes for drinkability and pleasantness every vintage. The aromas are ample and floral with nuances of spices. The palate is gentle with fine tannins balanced with the typical structure, which can be appreciated in youth for those who love the energy of Barolo that reaches its best expression with a few years of bottle age.
Laced with cherry, raspberry and blackberry fruit, this juicy red is supple and open despite a line of dense tannins underneath. Balanced and long, marrying elegance and power.
