NV Blard & Fils Cremant De Savoie Brut Alpin Rose, France $40.99
A fresh and elegant sparkling rosé with amazing value. A very dynamic and fresh mouth coming from the Jacquère combined with very elegant floral and candy notes. Jean-Noël and Thomas Blard (father and son) have been taking their five-generation family domain to an upswing in the last twenty years while also moving to organic and natural practices. They are making fantastic wines in the Apremont region in Savoie, in the French Alps. Along with a few other winemakers from the area, they are helping promote the potential and intrigue of Savoie. Their lineup is wide and spans many grapes and styles, but they definitely excel with the Jacquère and Altesse grapes, which are favorites in the area.
2023 Domaine South Blanc (Clos Roussely), Loire Valley, France $16.99
A charming, vibrant Sauvignon Blanc from a small family operation in Touraine. Vincent Roussely, the current winemaker, represents the fourth generation of the Roussely family to steward these vines, some of which are 80 years-old. Grown organically atop predominantly clay and tuffeau soils, this is a bright and citrus-scented wine with the Loire Valley's distinct mineral undertones.
2024 Domaine South Rose ( Domaine Turenne), Cotes de Provence, France $18.99
Domaine Turenne, northeast of Bandol in Provence, produces this lovely rosé from 40% Cinsault, 50% Grenache and 10% Syrah, certified organic. The terroir is a unique bed of limestone and sandstone debris with small stones called "Gavroches" which bring a pronounced minerality and good drainage to the vines. The grapes are harvested by hand and fermented with wild yeasts. The is a pretty, very pale pink/orange color with aromas of wild strawberry, raspberry, rose and citrus, with a hint of stone fruits as well. The palate is light and elegant with subtle berry fruits, a hint of citrus and stone, and has nice density and length. This is a light and lovely rosé for all year enjoyment, sipped by itself or with grilled fish, white meats, salade Niçoise and mild cheeses - and it's a fabulous value!
2024 Clos Roussely Orange, Loire Valley, France $16.99
An approachable and democratic orange wine, enjoyable for beginners and aficionados alike. Aromas of orange rind and juicy apricot, complemented by light tannins and fresh acidity. Refreshing tasting notes of orange peel, golden stone fruits, and earthy minerality
Good to have it with: it’s great as an aperitif, or paired with light dishes. Shrimp ceviche or baja fish tacos are a great option!
Extended maceration with the skins for the color. The vineyard is located in the heart of the village of Angé and overlooks the banks of the Cher. Located in the Touraine and Touraine-Chenonceaux appellation area. It extends over 8 hectares and certified in Organic agriculture since 2007. The oldest vines of the domain are 80 years of age. The clay-limestone soil with many flints, as well as the temperate climate allow a superb expression of Sauvignon Blanc .
2022 Daniel Bouland Cote De Brouilly Cuvee Melanie, Beaujolais, France $41.99
JOHN GILMAN 94 POINTS - "Daniel Bouland’s Cuvée Mélanie bottling of Côte de Brouilly is an old vine cuvée, as all of these vines are more than seventy years-old. The 2022 iteration is simply a brilliant young wine, offering up a deep, pure and sappy bouquet of black cherries, pomegranate, a touch of smoked meats, dark soil tones, just a hint of fresh thyme, sweet stem tones that add a lovely undertow of savoriness, roses and a smoky topnote. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, vibrant and complex, with a beautiful core of fruit, lovely soil inflection, ripe, buried tannins, tangy acids and excellent 70 focus and balance on the long and utterly complete finish. This is eminently drinkable in its youthful charm, but has the underlying chassis of suave tannins to age long and gracefully and will be a far more impressive drink five to ten years down the road."
2022 Pigeoulet En Provence Rouge, France $23.99
If the Brunier family’s regal and structured Châteauneufs are best suited to a nice tablecloth, low lights, and ribeye or slow-cooked leg of lamb, their bright and juicy Pigeoulet is perfect right out of the ice bucket at your next backyard barbecue. Of course, it has that unmistakably spicy and rocky finish so evocative of the southern Rhône, but this is about as quaffable as the region’s rouges get.
