The Wines

NV Rocher des Violettes Petillant Originel, Louis Montlouis, Loire Valley, France $37.99
This is a bracingly pure and elegant organic petillant naturel. Citrus, sea spray, and nectarine flavors burst from the glass framed by a saline, mineral-infused structure.Certified organic
100% Chenin Blanc, A single parcel in the lieu-dit “Le Moulin”, Planted in 2011, Limestone and silex terroir with clay, 1.5 meters of dirt before hitting pure chalk bedrock, Pétillant Naturel, Indigenous yeast, Fermented and aged in stainless steel, Aged 24 months on the lees,  Zero dosage.

Xavier Weisskopf founded Le Rocher des Violettes in 2005 after studying winemaking in Chablis and Beaune and earning his degree in viticulture and oenology. He quickly went to work for the hard working and demanding Lous Barruol at famed Gigondas producer Chateau de Saint Cosme. He quickly rose to the rank of chef du cave, making 4 vintages during his tenure. His love for Chenin Blanc drew him to Montlouis, where an underappreciation of this historic appellation allowed him to acquire 9 hectares of sacred old vine sites (mostly planted pre WWII!). He immediately converted the farming of all his vines to certified organics, with the aim to allow these precious old vines to speak without obfuscation. This traditional philosophy extends into the cellar where his use of older barrels shows the deft touch of true Chenin zen. His goal is simply to make wines of clarity, focus and laser precision.

2024 La Manarin Cotes Du Rhone Rose, Rhone Valley, France $18.99
Gilles Gasq has had an impressive run lately, having begun producing a dynamite Châteauneuf-du-Pape in addition to his always-reliable offerings from the Côtes du Rhône and the Plan de Dieu. His Côtes du Rhône Rosé, comprising 50% Grenache, 40% Mourvèdre, and 10% Syrah, is produced solely via direct-press and aged in stainless steel on its fine lees for several months before bottling. It offers bright, friendly strawberry fruit, gentle but well-measured acidity, and an underlying freshness not often found in the rosés of the southern Rhône. The domaine has been certified organic for over a decade at this point, and the already-expert Gilles continues to hone his approach to great effect.

2024 Casa Setara Terramatta Aglianico, Campania, Italy $25.99
Discover the exceptional Casa Setaro Terramatta Aglianico, an exquisite organic red wine crafted from 100% ungrafted Aglianico grapes grown in the pristine Vesuvius National Park. This unique wine originates from the Tirone della Guardia vineyards, situated at an elevation of 250-350 meters above sea level, and is nurtured in the region's rich volcanic black sand. The meticulous vinification process includes destemming, cryo-maceration, and controlled temperature fermentation, followed by 12 months of aging in stainless steel and a brief passage in used oak. The result is a harmonious balance of freshness and lift, beautifully complementing the Aglianico grape's inherent ruggedness.

Casa Setaro Terramatta Aglianico presents an intense ruby red hue, captivating the senses with a mesmerizing floral aroma intertwined with hints of red fruits, licorice, and smoky undertones. The full-bodied palate delivers a powerful yet elegant experience, with a well-structured profile and slightly velvety tannins. This wine, with its 14% alcoholic volume, is best enjoyed at a serving temperature of 14-16°C.

2023 Pecheur Cotes du Jura Poulsard, Jura, France $33.99
The Pêcheurs’ limpid, delicious Poulsard verges on rosé in color, yet delivers plenty of jammy strawberry and cherry, underpinned by a tender minerality. From 25-year-old vines in the Champs Rouge vineyard in Passenans, it is destemmed entirely and spends a year aging in a combination of stainless steel and used 600-liter oak casks

2021 Guimaro Camino Real, Ribeira Sacra Amandi, Galicia, Spain $29.99

2022 Viticola Sileo "Sileo Tinto", Montsant, Spain $27.99
Sileo
100% Grenache. The grapes for Sileo come from a number of organically-farmed vineyards around Cornudella de Montsant planted on calcareous clay soils. The grapes are harvested by hand and ferment and age in a mix of used French oak barrels and stainless steel tanks.

The appeal of the dramatic cliffs, ancient chapels, and old vineyards of Cornudella de Montsant is easy to understand. The town and its environs, situated in the northwest of the Montsant appellation, rest at the feet two mountain ranges: the Serra de Montsant and the Muntanyes de Prades, providing radical shifts in elevation, complex slate and calcareous geological patterns, and imposing, picturesque cliffs Here, Agustí Torelló Roca founded Companyia Vitícola Sileo.

Sileo
is a Latin word meaning to be still, to be quiet, or to rest (it is the source of the English word ‘silence’).

Montsant has long existed in Priorat’s shadow. The mountains of the Montsant DO encircle the valleys of the Siurana and Montsant rivers that form the heart of the DOQ of Priorat. While the Priorat DO was established in 1954, the region’s meteoric rise to the forefront of Spanish wine in the 1990s transformed the area as independent producers replaced the old cooperatives and garnished national and international praise.
