The Perrin family have cultivated their love of wine for several generations. The story begins in the early twentieth century with the Château de Beaucastel, jewel of Chateauneuf Pape.
It was in 1909 that Pierre Tramier acquired the estate. Thereafter, his son in law, Pierre Perrin, followed by his son Jacques Perrin, developed Beaucastel and its vineyards. Today the 5th generation continues the family passion.
The Wines
2024 Maison Les Alexandrins Viognier, Rhone Valley, France $16.99
Maison Les Alexandrins, a signature modern in approach and contemporary in style. An elegant, fresh, aromatic wine, the perfect wine for an aperitif.
A partnership between two winegrowers from the Rhône Valley – Nicolas Jaboulet and Alexandre Caso – Maison les Alexandrins produces northern wines in a style at once contemporary and timeless, always from exceptional vineyards unearthed by Alexandre Caso, a specialist in the terroirs of the northern Rhône Valley. Classics with a twist, these wines and how they are aged and blended are guided by the quest for perfect harmony from a very young age. The wine comes from high-altitude vineyards, mainly located on the slopes in the Ardèche. he wine comes from high-altitude vineyards, mainly located on the slopes in the Ardèche and few parcels in the Bréseyme area.
Gentle pneumatic pressing. Cold settling and fining. Temperature-controlled fermentation in tank. Aged on fine lees in stainless steel tank for 6 months
2023 Chateau de Beaucastel Chateauneuf-du-Pape Blanc, Rhone Valley, France $107.99
An alluring, generous white, with a lot of pleasure to the honey-coated quince and apple notes, cut with pithy acidity and a chalky mineral layer. Density builds as this unwinds in the glass, with toasted almond, green herb and white blossom details adding complexity. Long, with impressive focus to the concentrated and full yet fresh finish. Delicious. Roussanne, Grenache Blanc, Clairette and Bourboulenc. Drink now through 2030. - Wine Spectator 94 points
2022 Famille Perrin Gigondas La Gille, Rhone Valley, France $40.99
Beautiful deep ruby-red colour. This wine reveals a powerful and complex nose with notes of tobacco, cigars and leather. Perfectly balanced with soft and silky tannins, the palate reveals an aromatic bouquet marked by “garrigue” with aromas of rosemary, undergrowth and spices.
After being picked by hand, the grapes are sorted, crushed, and vatted in the cellar. The maceration period is long in order to soften and mellow the tannins. The result is a wine of tremendous delicacy that emphasizes the finesse of the Grenache. It is the key variety of this wine, which is of exceptional elegance, and the decision to assign Syrah to a supporting role, even taking into account colour and structure, was a conscious one. Extraction by manual cap punching. After malolactic fermentation and blending, short vinification with ageing in foudres or conical wooden vats for one year.
VARIETALS: Grenache, Mourvèdre, Syrah
2022 Chateau De Beaucastel Cotes Du Rhone Coudoulet De Beaucastel Rouge, Rhone Valley, France $34.99
A blend of 30% Mourvèdre, 30% Syrah, 30% Grenache and 10% Cinsault, the 2022 Cotes du Rhone Coudoulet de Beaucastel exhales a delicate, perfumed bouquet of black cherries, spices, violets and spring flowers. It’s medium to full-bodied, enveloping and layered with a juicy core of fruit, a tense mid-palate and a fresh, ethereal finish. This is a consistent wine and a solid value. Beaucastel is renowned for producing some of the most long-lived red wines in Southern Rhône. But beyond their remarkable longevity, the wines from Château de Beaucastel are distinguished by their elegance and finesse as they mature. These traits persist, despite the deep structure and concentration for which they are known. Since the end of the tenure of Jacques Perrin (he passed away in 1978), the estate has strictly adhered to organic farming methods, avoiding the use of chemicals on its extensive 110 hectares in the northernmost part of the appellation.
2022 Famille Perrin Chateauneuf-du-Pape Les Sinards Rouge, Rhone Valley, France $49.99
Les Sinards is made from young vines (under 20 years old) at Beaucastel and two neighbouring vineyards. Mainly Grenache, it is a very elegant wine that can be enjoyed immediately.
Blackberries, spicy garrigue, herbes de Provence, and some peppery nuances all emerge from the 2022 Châteauneuf Du Pape Les Sinards, a medium-bodied, supple, elegant red with tons of character.
Miocene marine deposits covered with alpine diluvium (rounded pebbles). One parcel on Urgonian limestone. The young Beaucastel vines produce more abundant and slightly less concentrated grapes, enabling us to make a wine that is immediately accessible. The grapes from Clos de Châteauneuf-du-Pape offer spicy, complex, dense notes, whilst Le Grès is planted with Grenache on round pebbles that absorb the heat of the day and release it during the night, giving warmth and finesse to the wine. Les Sinard is composed mainly of Grenache, unlike Beaucastel.
