French Wine Tasting

4pm-6pm
When Wildman founded his import company in 1934 he was already one of America’s rare authorities of fine French and European wines and spirits, experience that was directly attributable to his WW I service in France. For a Danbury, Connecticut-born member of one of the city’s most prominent families, Wildman’s service in France during WW I would prove to be crucial to his transformation into a great wine and spirits connoisseur, a far-sighted importer beginning with Repeal and, ultimately, a highly respected wine and spirits industry leader in both America and Europe.

NV Famille Vincent Cremant de Bourgogne, Burgundy, France $28.99
This sparkler from Famille Vincent is made in the same traditional method as Champagne, from the neighboring region of Burgundy. This method gives the sparkler a refinement and a soft mousse, or bubbles, that lingers on your palate. The selection for this sparkler – Crémant de Bourgogne comes from vineyards situated south of Burgundy. This is the perfect wine for your next celebration or just a night at home!
The selection for our sparkler – Crémant de Bourgogne is from regional Mâconnais grapes, 100% Chardonnay, from vineyards with limestone dominated soils situated at altitude in the cooler areas.
2022 Famille Vincent Bourgogne Blanc, Burgundy, France $25.99
Clean pale yellow color and green reflections. A nice brilliance. The nose is fresh and fruity, ripe and round with discrete vanilla and brioche scents. On the mouth, the wine is dense and rich, fresh and subtle with a good length and finesse. Overall, the wine is nicely balanced, fresh, elegant and with a long finish.
Famille Vincent produces a range of wines made with the same care and expertise as those made at the historic domaine, Chateau Fuissé. Made from grapes sourced from Maconnais and cru Beaujolais vineyards owned by other members of Jean-Jacques Vincent’s family, these wines are of extremely high quality. Famille Vincent wines are both lovely and approachable wines for immediate consumption and a great introduction to the Chateau Fuissé realm of great wines.
2023 Stephane Aviron Beaujolais-Villages, Beaujolais, France $16.99
Aviron has earned a reputation for being a neo- traditionalist, combining grapes from very old vines with both modern and traditional wine-making methods to produce wines that stand up to the finest of Burgundies in quality and complexity.
The Stéphane Aviron Beaujolais Villages is sourced from two of the best terroirs of the appellation, both with old vines averaging at least 50 years in age. The vines in the commune of Quincié have sandy, granite soils and the commune of Lantignié has clay and limestone soils with favorable southwest exposure.
Whole clusters of grapes are fermented, and then macerated for six days to extract characters of fruit and finesse. The wine is aged in cement tanks to retain the purity of the fresh fruit. The wine shows great finesse, elegance and a very “easy drinking” nature.
2023 Hugel Pinot Noir Classic, Alsace, France $27.99
Pinot Noir now represents 8% of the total production of Alsace and with global warming the wines are steadily gaining in density. Made from the famous grape variety of Burgundy, this agreeable red wine presents a distinctive Alsace character.
Harvested in the first days of harvest, exclusively by hand, from clay and limestone vineyards in a dozen of the most favoured localities in and around Riquewihr. A cool and long growing season give this unique dry wine great finesse and balanced intensity.
Don't be fooled by its dashing ruby colour and bright highlights, this pinot noir really has a lot to say for itself. The aroma brings to mind morillo cherries, kirsch, red-current and fresh tobacco with all the clear and abundant fruitiness of an Alsatian wine with no unwanted woody aromas to mask them. On the palate it is wonderfully fresh. The tannin is present but not too hard along with a nice texture that fades away to leave a beautiful structured melody for the final, not too dry, note. A genuine and effective Alsatian Pinot
2020 Chateau Folin De Chauvin, Bordeaux, France $34.99
In 2014, Sylvie purchased Château Chauvin along with her children, Julie, Pierre and François. The Château is located in the north-west part of St. Émilion, near the border with Pomerol and neighbors with Châteaux Cheval Blanc, Figeac and La Dominique. The vineyards are in a single block, planted to 75% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon on sandy-clay soils with an iron-rich subsoil.
"A juicy, fruity red with blackberry, chocolate and walnut character. Some coffee, too. It's medium-bodied with firm, polished tannins and a pretty finish".- James Suckling
"The 2020 Folie de Chauvin is a very attractive second wine. Silky and perfumed, this mid-weight Saint-Émilion offers tons of appeal and pure charm. Today, it is especially seductive. Pretty floral accents and a burst of sweet red berry fruit linger". - Vinous
2022 Chateau Mont-Redon Lirac Rouge, Rhone Valley, France $29.99
Mont-Redon has been the location of our vineyard since Antiquity. The topography of the “round mountain” located at the foot of the estate inspired the Romans who called it “Montem Rotundum”, translated today as Mont Redon.
This contiguous vineyard is located on the left bank of the Rhône in the town of Roquemaure, between Orange and Avignon, near Tavel. The climate is Mediterranean with hot dry Summers punctuated with a few showers. The Mistral wind blows fairly consistently year-round, ensuring very favorable sanitary conditions for wine growing.
Our red Lirac can be enjoyed young for their red and black fruits dominant note, their voluptuous, spicy and delicately toasted character. They reach their plenitude on the third year. Their aging potential is 3 to 7 years.
